Eco Club

Eco-Club of SGTBIMIT, is a multidimensional, highly active society that runs in co-ordination with the Department of Environment, Govt. of NCT of Delhi. The mission of the Guru Har Rai Sahib Eco-Club is "Go Green initiative" to raise the students' "interest" over environmental issues and to get the students actively involved in environmental matters from their own area. The club also seeks to conserve nature's heritage by education and direct conservation efforts to spread awareness about good environmental practices like for a ban on plastic, proper dumping of garbage, planting of tress etc. within SGTBIMIT premises.

Mission & Objective

Guru Har Rai Sahib Eco-Club of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Management & Information Technology affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University aims to create and incorporate the concepts of environmental awareness and sustainable development through various activities in and around the college. It recognizes the significance and the pivotal role of the students and the youth in safeguarding future sustainability to improve the environment. The Eco Club conducts various activities, workshops and interactive sessions that help students in understanding local issues in the global context. Moreover, it aims to instil deeper thought process in finding the solutions to the local problems like plastic management, waste segregation, air pollution and many others. The Eco- Club aims to increase the participation and inculcate deep interest in the students towards the environment. It is a forum that provides a platform to the young budding environmentalists for open discussions, interactions and debates on every environmental aspect. The Eco- Club actively participates and involves itself in eco-campaigns and drives organized by the Government and Non-governmental organizations. The society has effectively built and nurtures plantations in the campus that harbours more than 20 different species of different medicinal plants and herbs in the college.

The accomplishments of the Eco-Club are:

1. Organised awareness programs such as seminars, debates, essay, painting, lectures and popular talks on environmental issues in the college.
2. Campaigned and sensitized the students to minimize the use of plastic/polythene bags, use of loud speakers, banned fireworks, recycling of glass and metals, filling of water body in the adjacent area, use of unnecessary horns.
3. Organised rallies, marches, human chains and street theatre at public places with a view to spread environmental awareness.
4. Action based activities like tree plantation, cleanliness drives both within and outside the college campus.
5. Maintenance of public places like parks, gardens both within and outside the college campus.
6. Mobilised action against environmentally unsound practices like garbage disposal in unauthorised places, unsafe disposal of hospital wastes etc.
7. Beautified selected road side area with plants and flowers and put campaign boards to generate awareness.
8. Sensitized the students to save electricity and also encouraged them to use solar panels
9. Motivated the students to imbibe habits and life style for minimum waste generation, separation of waste, disposing off the waste to the nearest storage point.
10. Educated students about concerns of e-waste, their eco-friendly segregation and disposal.
11. Educated the students about reuse, recycle and reduce principle and preparation of products out of waste like paper bags, paper packets, etc.
12. Celebrated various environmental days, such as International Ozone Day (16 Sept), Wetland Day (2 February), World Earth Day (22 April), International Biodiversity Day (22 May), world Environmental Day (5 June) and weeks, like Van-Mahotsav, Wildlife Week etc.
13. Promoted the ethos of rainwater harvesting (storage and ground water recharge) and conservation of water by minimising the use of water.
14. Created awareness about harmful effects of noise and air pollution.
15. Arranged various awareness programmes such as lectures, quiz, essays, painting competitions, rally, nukkad natak, etc., that highlight various environmental issues.
